Ernesto Berríos-Caro has joined our lab as a postdoctoral fellow. Ernesto comes to us with an outstanding background in microbial population dynamics, evolutionary theory, and stochastic processes.
He was previously a postdoc in the group of Hildegard Uecker at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology in Plön, Germany, where he studied evolutionary rescue and antibiotic resistance. Before that he completed his Ph.D. in theoretical biophysics at the University of Manchester, UK, with Tobias Galla and Danna Gifford.
In our lab Ernesto joins our new HFSP-funded collaboration with Daniel Charlebois and Meike Wortel on understanding evolutionary repeatability across biological scales of multispecies communities of pathogenic Candida yeasts. He plans to develop new evolutionary theory using mathematical models as well as analyze genomic data from evolution experiments on these systems.
